Making a Referral

Referrals can be made for a range of reasons, but ultimately because a young person is not currently thriving in their mainstream school.

Who should make the referral?

01

Mainstream schools within the London Borough of Waltham Forest

Refer through the LBWF Access, Participation and Inclusion Team or through the SEND department.

The referral process

  1. 01

Concerns are raised by the school or guardian, indicating a situation that may require a young person to be referred.

  2. 02

A referral is made to the local authority.

  3. 03

The referral is discussed and, if BCIS is considered a suitable intervention, the admissions process begins.

When places are limited: If BCIS is oversubscribed, the young person's case may be discussed at the Fair Access Panel and the young person may be placed on a waiting list.
